Annie Johnson Bio

"Compared to such talents as Melissa Ethridge, Kate Bush, Suzanne Vega and Tori Amos, singer/songwriter/musician Annie Johnson’s strong voice, powerful melodies and unique lyrics has earned her many accolades, including Ninevolt Magazine’s “Best Acoustic/Folk Artist Award in 2002."
quote from the Peninsula Fine Arts Center web site

Annie Johnson has been performing in Hampton Roads since 1994, first as a guitarist & back-up singer for several bands and then fronting her own band, the AJB. She has played rock, folk, punk, pop, blues, and jazz, covers & originals, depending on the audience and the venue.

The AJB is Annie's hard rocking band that plays a high-energy mix of popular cover songs that they've made their own and originals. Annie's rock singing has been compared to Heart's Ann Wilson and Rush's Geddy Lee.

Solo, Annie plays acoustic guitar and assembles a set list to suit the audience & venue, everything from pop, folk, jazz and blues to hard classic & alternative rock and originals.

Since 2005, Annie has been working with Tidewater Arts Outreach to bring "music and arts to adult day programs, convalescent homes, hospitals, centers for individuals with disabilities, rehabilitation centers, family homeless shelters, and other homes, facilities and institutions. These performances, programs and activities promote human interaction, happiness and healing for people who have limited access to the arts, due to health, economic or social circumstances."
